title: Who doesn't want a firmer skin?!

In my thirties now, am thinking I’d have to do something to firm up my skin. To have it as maintenance, I had my 1st Radiofrequency in NUH Aesthetic.  Just like the microdermabrasion which I did once monthly or bi-monthly, it is with no downtimes and side effect so I opted for it.

So what is Radiofrequency (RF)

Radiofrequency is a popular method for the non-surgical and painless tightening of the early signs of loose or sagging skin. Radiofrequency is commonly used to treat the forehead, under the eyes, cheeks, mid-face, jaw line, and the neck. It is ideal for both men & women in their mid thirties to fifties, who don’t want to undergo a surgical face lift.

How Radiofrequency(RF) works?

I were told to hold on a long metal piece throughout the process to prevent skin from getting burn during the electric transmission. The nurse will then use a handset with a red ray to slowly run through my skin. I will feel a warm sensation which will slowly get hotter and hotter this indicates that the desired heating temperature has been achieved for effective stimulation of the collagen.  An integrated cooling device is also available to provide continuous contact cooling which helps to maintain patient comfort, epidermal protection and achieve maximum results. But the treatment is still considered comfortable and relaxing. Then next round with blue light slowly run through my skin again. Well this RF uses electrical energy to heat the deep layers of the skin, whilst protecting the outer layer. Heating in this area, without damaging the outer layers of skin, causes microscopic changes to the tissues and collagen contraction, with subsequent collagen remodelling over the months that pass. Treatments are comfortable, have no healing time and give immediate results. You are able to resume all your usual activities straight after. A series of treatments is usually required for optimal results.

How safe is Radiofrequency (RF) for skin tightening?

RF is a clinically proven and safe treatment technology. There are rarely any side effects, but some patients may experience a mild redness that subsides 1-2 hours after the treatment.

What kind of results can I expect from Radiofrequency (RF) treatments for skin tightening?

Immediately following the treatment, your skin will feel tighter, with more tightening improvements appearing gradually over the months after treatment. Radiofrequency can also be used to enhance a variety of treatments including IPL & laser skin rejuvenation and acne treatment.

How many Radiofrequency (RF) treatments will I need?

Depending on the device being used, I were recommended to have a session every 1 or 2 months

How long does each treatment session last?

Each treatment session is about 60-90 minutes for the face and neck, followed by a Oxgyen Mask for hydration and nourishment.

Radiofrequency addresses the following concerns:
• Droopy eyelids/looking tired
• Flattening of the cheeks
• Lines from nose to mouth (nasolabial folds)
• Lines causing corners of the mouth to turn down (marionette lines)
• Loosening jaw line (jowls)
• Double chin
• Loose neck
Radiofrequency is used to tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production, and is best suited to patients with mild to moderate sagging of facial tissues, usually those in their mid thirties to fifties, with any skin colour.

Are Radiofrequency (RF) treatments painful?

RF treatments are generally comfortable and relaxing. This is one of the reasons for its popularity.

Who is not suitable for Radiofrequency (RF) treatments?

• If you have active skin disease or infection in the area treated.
• If you are pregnant.
• If you have an electrical device in your body e.g. pacemakers.

How should I prepare for a Radiofrequency (RF) treatment?

Avoid doing anything that will irritate your skin immediately before treatment (e.g. sunbathing). Some women find that their skin is more sensitive right before and during their menstrual cycle, therefore ladies: please take this into consideration when scheduling your treatment appointment.

What should you do after a Radiofrequency (RF) treatment?

Generally, no special care is needed after treatment. However it is good to increase the application of moisturizing lotions or creams to the treatment area. Use a hydrating mask as often as you feel is necessary.
